Alumni Reception at the American Veterinary Medical Association Conference - July 17, 2005
Minneapolis, MN

Following a full day at the exhibition hall, CE sessions, and meetings, alumni and College friends will gather together for fellowship and to hear about College news and initiatives. This annual event held in Minneapolis this year, typically draws about 200 guests (alumni, friends of the College, current students, faculty and family members).

Urbana, IL

The orientation program helps first-year veterinary students plot a course for the challenging academic endeavor ahead. This program offers tremendous exposure to this new crop of professional students as well as faculty and current students involved with the team-building exercises. Feedback from the students participating in orientation and particularly the team-building is extremely positive. Students are officially welcomed into the program through the Blue Coat ceremony. This ceremony marks their acceptance into the Illini family and helps students realize they are entering a community of professionals. Donning a blue lab coat in the presence of faculty and representatives from professional organizations and reciting an ethics code symbolically formalizes that transition.

Fall Conference Alumni Pre-Game Event - October 22, 2005
Urbana, IL

This pre-game event is the conclusion of our Fall Conference activities. It brings alumni and their families, students and College friends together prior to the football game. This year, the foe will be Michigan.

Alumni Reception at the American Association of Equine Practitioners Conference - December 3, 2005
Denver, CO

Nearly 100 alumni, veterinary students, and friends of the College gather at this annual reception held during the AAEP Convention in Denver. Following a full day of educational sessions, tours, and meetings, this reception is always a fun way to network and share the Illini spirit, while learning about College news.

Alumni Reception at the North American Veterinary Conference - January 2006
Orlando, FL

Over 150 alumni, veterinary students, and friends of the College gather at this annual Orange and Blue event held during the popular NAVC in Orlando. Following a full day of educational sessions, tours, and meetings, this reception is always a fun way to kick off the new year and share the Illini spirit while learning about College news.

Alumni Reception at the Western Veterinary Conference - February 2006
Las Vegas, NV

Following a full day at the exhibition hall, CE sessions, and meetings, alumni and College friends will gather together for fellowship and to hear about College news and initiatives. This annual event, held in Las Vegas, typically draws about 250 guests (alumni, friends of the College, current students, faculty and family members).

Urbana, IL

This is our College's opportunity to shine! Prospective students are invited to the College for interviews and to take a look at the College. In 2004, 236 Illinois residents and out-of-state applicants were invited to compete for 77 in-state and 20 non-resident spots. The applicants take part in a wide variety of activities including tours of College facilities, career talks presented by alumni and faculty, and a club fair featuring student organizations and sponsors.

Veterinary Medicine Open House - April 1, 2006
Urbana, IL

Several thousand people flock to the College of Veterinary Medicine on this first Saturday in April. Our veterinary students organize and host the Open House. Most of the attendees are animal owners or animal lovers who would benefit from knowing about animal related services or products.

[awards and scholarships celebration] Student Awards Ceremony and Reception - April 8, 2006
Champaign, IL

This annual spring event brings approximately 300 veterinary students, their families, and award and scholarship sponsors together. Over $220,000 was presented in 173 awards including five first-time awards at the 2006 ceremony. A reception following the ceremony allows award sponsors to connect with their student recipients and families.

White Coat Ceremony - May 7, 2006 (Tentative date)[white coat ceremony]

The White Coat Ceremony commends students entering clinical rotations in the fourth-year of the DVM program for successfully completing their basic sciences studies. Also recognized are the contributions of faculty who prepare students in the first years of the curriculum. More than 400 people, including students, faculty, and family, attend the ceremony.

Graduating Senior Farewell - May 13, 2006
Champaign, IL

Hosted by the College's dean, Dr. Herb Whiteley, this farewell event acknowledges the fourth-year students for successfully completing the DVM program. Materials about membership in the University's Alumni Association and organized veterinary medicine to encourage connections to both the profession and the University will also be distributed.

College of Veterinary Medicine Commencement Reception - May 14, 2006
Urbana, IL

This reception immediately follows the College's commencement ceremony at the College. More than 100 new graduates with their freshly minted diplomas join family members, spouses, and friends as well as faculty, staff, and veterinary mentors for one final celebration. Both buildings are open allowing attendees to view the photos of the College's current and past graduates and to tour the hospital.
