Immunization and Rabies Information

Illinois State law requires that all students entering post-secondary educational institutions in the State of Illinois provide proof of immunity to measles, mumps, rubella, diphtheria, and tetanus. It is especially important to note that the Illinois Department of Public Health has now mandated that:

1. Immunization requirements are to be completed prior to enrollment for the Fall semester. If no proof of vaccination is provided prior to the beginning of fall classes, the student(s) will be required to be vaccinated by McKinley Health Center. Arrangements are made by the Office of Academic and Student Affairs.

2. An additional requirement, following updated guidelines from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the American Pediatric Association, will be to provide proof receiving two doses of the measles vaccine.

3. After the Fall semester, all students not providing this proof will be encumbered and not allowed to register for the Spring semester.

All VM-1 students and transfer students are required to supply evidence of vaccination against rabies or pay for and receive vaccination in the early part of their first year unless there is a medical reason for not being vaccinated. In the latter instance, a letter of explanation from a physician must be filed with the Office of Academic and Student Affairs, 2271G VMBSB.

This policy is designated for your own protection. If you do not complete your rabies vaccinations by the end of the fall semester or provide a letter from your physician, you will be dropped by the College for the Spring semester.
