- Dr. John Ciribassi is a 1984 graduate of the University
of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. Originally from New Jersey, Dr. Ciribassi
now lives in the Chicago area and is owner of Chicagoland Veterinary Behavior Consultants. Dr.Ciribassi and his wife also own the Carol Stream Animal
Hospital, a general veterinary practice in a Chicago suburb.
- He has been involved with American Veterinary Society of
Animal Behavior since 1998 and became president-elect in 2004. He
is involved with a program that qualifies individuals to sit for boards
for the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists. He is the behavior
section moderator for NOAH, which is the American Veterinary Medical
Association's web-based discussion listserv.
- On Tuesday, December 4th, in VMBSB 2251 from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Dr. Rebecca Buraglio from Caring Hands Animal Hospital gave a talk on how to incorporate animal behavior into your small animal practice. - On Sunday, January 20th we drove up to Lincoln Park Zoo to meet with Dr. Sue Margulis and Lincoln Park Zoo Veterinarian Dr. Kathryn Gamble. Please e-mail delcore2@uiuc.edu for more information.
- Dr. Sue Margulis received her Ph.D. in evolutionary biology from the University of Chicago in 1996. After six years at Brookfield Zoo as a behavioral research manager, Dr. Margulis came to Lincoln Park Zoo as Curator of Primates in 2004. She is a member of the Lester E. Fisher Center for the Study and Conservation of Apes, located in the Lincoln Park Zoo. Her research is in applied animal behavior, and she has taught research in animal behavior at the University of Chicago since 2001.
- Dr. Margulis is on the advisory board of EthoSource, the education committee of the Animal Behavior Society, and serves on the Behavior Advisory Group of American Zoo and Aquarium Association. She is the behavior adviser for the Ape Taxon Advisory Group as well as the Research Advisor to the AZA Gibbon Species Survival Plan (SSP). - Kathryn Gamble, D.V.M., received each of her degrees from Texas A&M University: a bachelor's in veterinary science (1989), doctor of veterinary medicine (1992) and master's in clinical pharmacology (1995). After 10 years as an associate veterinarian with the Dallas Zoo and Aquarium, she joined the staff of Lincoln Park Zoo as director of Veterinary Services in 2002. In 1999 she achieved Diplomate status with the American College of Zoological Medicine (ACZM).
- As director of Veterinary Services, Gamble is responsible for coordinating veterinary research, including studies conducted by veterinarians, veterinary technicians, the nutrition manager, keepers and veterinary preceptors. Her research role also includes overseeing sample acquisition during routine veterinary clinical duties.
- Gamble serves as veterinary advisor for the Chimpanzee Species Survival Plan (SSP), Buceroes SSP and Coraciiformes Taxon Advisory Group. As an evaluator of published literature, she has been an associate editor for the Journal of Zoo and Wildlife Medicine since 2001. She has collaborated with other Lincoln Park Zoo researchers to develop a computerized evaluation for risk factors of mycobacteriosis in avian species, and her research projects include clinical case medicine, analgesia options for reptiles, squamous cell carcinoma in hornbills and distemper virus in phocid seals.
