Transmission exercise:
For the discussion of transmission
on Feb. 17 you will each analyze one of the following
routes of transmission, picking
up a disease of your choice as an example:
1) Fecal-oral - (typhoid, cholera, salmonella, polio, cryptosporidiosis)
2) Respiratory - (influenza, measles, IBR, BRSV, tuberculosis, legionella)
3) STD - (syphilis, HIV, Chlamydia, Trichomonas, CEM)
4) Vector borne - (malaria, trypanosomiasis, Lyme disease arboviruses, tularemia)
Each group (of 3) will give a 10
minute presentation/discussion on Tuesday, Feb. 17.
Topics to consider include:
1) Description of the route of transmission, its uniqueness, advantages and pitfalls.
2) Type of organisms which use this route most often and their adaptations.
3) Components of transmission route amenable to intervention
