For the class discussion next week,
you will each consider the sociopolitical and economic aspects
of both disease and control strategy. You will remain in the same group from
the control exercise.
Make use of both lecture notes
and information in the readings
(this will provide you with opportunity to visit the background readings listed
for these topics):
1) Human disease and health in the developing world
2) Animal disease and health in the developing world
3) Human disease and health in the developed world
4) Animal disease and health in the developed world
Each group will give a 10 minute
presentation, on Tuesday, March 7.
Please adhere to the time limit. Use overheads and diagrams (or Powerpoint)
as much as possible
Regarding socio-political and economic isues, consider:
a) Emphasis on specific diseases
vs. general health
b) Conflicting social, political and economic forces
c) Who is in control of resources and disease management?
d) Interest groups involved
