Veterinary Student Summer Training Program

Application Process

To be eligible for application, students must:
• Be enrolled in veterinary school at the time of application period
• Have completed one semester (for first year students) or one year (for second year students) towards the DVM degree
• Hold a DVM cumulative grade-point average of 3.0/4.0 (for second year students) or;
• Hold an undergraduate cumulative grade-point average of 3.0/4.0 (for first year students)
• Have an interest in following a career in research

Submitting Your Application

Applicants must submit:
1. Applicant must submit preliminary application found here.
2. A one-page letter of application that describes the candidates current research interests and long-term research and career goals. Visit the Meet Our Mentors page to view possible research project matches.
3. A curriculum vitae or resume.
4. An OFFICIAL copy of both undergraduate and professional school grades.
5. Two letters of recommendation; preferably one from a CVM faculty member/instructor and one from an employer/research mentor/volunteer coordinator who can specifically address the candidate’s suitability for research experience.

  • Items 2-3 must be e-mailed to czr@cvm.uiuc.edu no later than February 1, 2008.

About the Selection Process:


• All applications will be reviewed by the CZR Scientific Steering Committee
• Grades (both undergraduate and DVM), combined with CVs/resumes, letters of application and letters of recommendation will be taken into account in the review process.
• Applicants will be notified by e-mail beginning February 15, 2008

Student-Mentor Matching

• As indicated above, students are encouraged to review CZR faculty research areas on the web and identify faculty they are interested in working with.
• While it is NOT a requirement for admission into the training program, students are welcome to contact CZR faculty members directly to discuss a potential mentorship.
