GIS & Spatial Analysis Lab

Workshop in GIS and Spatial Analysis for Public Health

Instructors: Drs. Uriel Kitron and Marilyn Ruiz.

A five day workshop on Geographic Information Systems and Spatial Analysis has been developed by Marilyn Ruiz and Uriel Kitron. This workshop has been taught at the College of Veterinary Medicine as well as in other U.S. and international locations.

Content

The workshop combines lectures and computer exercises to help you to both understand and use important spatial tools and methods. The tools used include

· ArcGIS from ESRI

· ClusterSeer from TerraSeer

· Point pattern analysis (ppa) by Art Getis

· ArcPad for Global Positioning Systems

These tools help to measure and visualize the spatial pattern of diseases and provide key insight into the processes related to those patterns. The emphasis in the workshop is on the applications of these tools, emphasizing specific examples in their use in epidemiology and for improving veterinary and public health.
