Title
Project Description:
Evaluation of relative pathogen adherence.
Pathogens vary in their ability to cause disease. One component of this variation is differences in the ability of viruses, bacteria and fungi to adhere to specific cell types as an early step in establishment of infection. This project will involve development of a multiplex differential real time PCR assay for closely related pathogens and in vitro evaluation of relative adherence to cultured cells. Propagation of viral and bacterial isolates, mammalian cell culture techniques and amplification, sequencing and characterization of specific genes will be part of this project.
