Veterinary Student Summer Training Program

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

All students must complete the following:

1. Work 40 hours each week on research activities.  This is a 12 week program.
2. Attend all orientation sessions and activities, brown bag seminars, and program field trips.
3. Submit a short bi-weekly e-mail report to Marcia Hayes, CZR Research Program Coordinator.  Students will be provided with templates that will outline the content that needs to be provided in these brief reports.
4. Write a scientific paper which details students’ project methods and findings.
5. Participate in mid-summer and exit interviews with Marcia Hayes.
6. Attend and present a poster at the 2008 National Veterinary Scholar Symposium (August 1-3, 2008) at Michigan State University (Expenses will be covered.)
7. Present a poster at the CZR student mini-symposium in late August, to be held at the College.
8. Provide a final critique of summer experience

 It is expected that all students will participate in the following:

1. Attend the Translational Biomedical Research (TBR) seminar series.  Click here for a schedule.
2. Attend, without charge, the Infectious Disease Conference, April 17-18, 2008, held at the College of Veterinary Medicine.
 

IMPORTANT DATES AND DEADLINES

  • Application deadline:  February 1, 2008
  • Notification of Acceptance into the program:  February 15, 2008
  • Completion of mentor matching process:  February 29, 2008
  • Program runs May 12-August 3, 2008
  • August 1-3, 2008 - 2008 National Veterinary Scholar Symposium at Michigan State University
