Equine Reproduction/
Ultrasound

Equine veterinarians often need to oversee different stages of reproduction in the horse to ensure that a horse is healthy enough to become pregnant and that an unborn foal is healthy as well.

Ultrasound is one way to look inside the animal body. An ultrasound machine uses sound waves to create a moving picture on a monitor. With this technique we can determine if a mare (female horse) is pregnant or if she has eggs in her ovaries that are ready to be fertilized by sperm. At our station we will demonstrate this technique in a pregnant mare.

We will also show you sperm under a microscope and testicles and feti (unborn babies) of different animals.
