Call for Papers - AASP Student Seminar

Veterinary Student Scholarships (Note-this is last year's information. It will be updated as new info becomes available)

The American Association of Swine Practitioners announces an opportunity for up to 15 veterinary students to make a scientific presentation at the AASP annual meeting scheduled for February 24-27, 2001 in Nashville, Tennessee. Interested students are invited to submit a one-page abstract of a research paper, clinical case study, or literature review for consideration by September 25, 2000. The abstracts will be reviewed by a panel of private practitioners, academicians, and industry veterinarians. Students whose papers are selected for presentation at the meeting will be notified by October 16, 2000 and will be expected to provide the complete paper or abstract for publication by November 16, 2000.

A $500 honorarium will be provided to the student presenter of each paper selected. ALPHARMA Animal Health has generously provided the funds for these honoraria. This contribution helps the students defray the cost of attending the AASP meeting.

Additionally for 2001, there will be a number of student scholarships available for veterinary students interested in swine health and production. These scholarships are administered through the AASP Foundation. ALPHARMA has made funds available for one award of $5,000. The Lilly Foundation and Elanco Animal Health has provided funds for five awards of $2,000 each. Veterinary students whose papers are selected for presentation at the meeting will be eligible to compete for one of these scholarships. The student presentations will be judged to determine the scholarship winners. The awards will be presented during the Annual Meeting awards banquet. Students interested in competing for the Veterinary Student Scholarships should submit the following supporting information along with their abstract:

-a brief biography and explanation of their interest in swine medicine
-an explanation of the student's intended use of the funds
-a letter of recommendation from a veterinarian or veterinary school faculty member attesting to the character and interest of the applicant.

For complete details including abstract content, formatting and submission information, students should contact their swine faculty advisor or the AASP office (phone (515) 465-5255, fax (515) 465-3832, email aasp@netins.net).
