The University of Illinois' Research Training Program in Environmental Toxicology provides toxicology training to students and postdoctoral fellows trained in basic sciences such as endocrinology and reproductive biology who are interested in applying their basic knowledge in these fields to toxicological research questions. Etablished in 2000 to help recruit new scientists into this important discipline, the fellowship program offers participants the opportunity to collaborate with outstanding UIUC faculty members (preceptors) in the departments of Animal Sciences, Chemistry, Crop Sciences, Food Science and Human Nutrition, Molecular and Integrative Physiology and Veterinary Biosciences. Research options are varied and range from the neurobehavioral effects of environmental endocrine disruptors to molecular toxicology of the estrogen receptor. The Program is funded by the NIEHS. The Training Program operates within the long-established Interdisciplinary Environmental Toxicology Program (IETP), which has been in existence on the University of Illinois campus since the early 1980s. The IETP is under the aegis of the Environmental Council, a campus-wide unit established in 1996 to ensure that the University of Illinois is a leader in environmental education and research. |
