Because obesity adds stress to bones, muscles, joints and overall body system function, weight control is a vital aspect of overall health management for your pet. In addition to increasing the risk of many metabolic diseases, obesity is also associated with an increased risk of the onset of osteoarthritis and increased lameness. Weight loss can effectively decrease the symptoms and progression in patients who already have osteoarthritis. As part of your pet’s overall care, we will evaluate your pet’s body condition and weight loss needs. We can then work with the owner to calculate appropriate diet portions, exercise programs and goals. We continue to monitor progress and counsel until the goals are met.
